My Savior, books.
Most of my favorite days were spent at the library. Every day after school, every summer morning, in between breaks in my class schedule. My favorite part about libraries was the portability of my source of entertainment; if I liked it, I could take it with me, only for a short time.
I would spend all of my money on books and slowly grew my own little library at home. I still escape to the library, and carry my favorite books with me to enjoy the quiet company.
My go-to accompaniment books are The Aleph by Paulo Coelho, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, and anything by Ernest Hemingway.
Sometimes, I drop by to listen to an audiobook and people watch. My preference in audiobooks are autobiographies, self help/ motivational, and spiritual development, that are read by the author. Some of my favorites are Big Magic by Elizbeth Gilbert, Inner Engineering: A Yogi's Guide to Joy by Sadhguru, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, The Woman I Wanted to Be by Diane von Furstenburg, and Normal Gets You Nowhere by Kelly Cutrone.
I enjoy both experiences of books and audiobooks, but I truly enjoy developing my imagination by building the stories of fiction without the authors' voice.
Do you share your love between books and audiobooks? What are some of your recommendations? Where do you like to retreat to read?
