Dreamy Reads.

I’m rounding off the summer by reading F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Beautiful and Damned. F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of my favorite writers because his tone is whimsical and romantic despite the plight of society and expectations.

Typically, this time of year I’d be reading a midsummer nights dream by William Shakespeare. The dramatic comedy is always a pleasure to submerge into during my subway ride. I decided 15 years of reading the same book over and over was a bit much and set off to Strand bookstore to find something that would evoke the same feeling of romance that comes with the early sunsets and first cool breeze of autumn. As I browsed through the endless selection of books I didn’t allow the endless options to sway me from my intention of what I was seeking to feel, and got hit with a feeling of nostalgia. Flashing back to my childhood and the first week of September and my new books, I became really excited and thought back to my American literature class when I was 15 and how I fell in love with words because of F. Scott Fitzgerald. I remember the way I fell into a hazy dream while flipping through the pages of The Great Gatsby. That’s it, its the same hazy dream I fall into when I read A Midsummer Night's Dream, while browsing through his many books, it was not difficult to choose, since I knew his style is what I was seeking and whatever title I chose wouldn’t disappoint. Ten pages in, and I’ve been transported to my hazy dream, let’s see what happens next...
